TransOral Robotic Surgery (TORS) is now approved for surgery removing tumors from the mouth, head, tonsil, tongue and throat by the FDA, so the daVinci robotic machine leads the way in one more type of surgical procedure. The first procedure made popular by the daVinci was it’s use in the prostate surgical procedures. Recently there have been reports on it’s use with heart surgery as well.
Below is a video I have included on other posts that shows how the daVinci robot works. BD
ScienceDaily (Jan. 4, 2010) — A minimally invasive surgical approach developed by head and neck surgeons at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The da Vinci Surgical System (Intuitive Surgical, Inc., Sunnyvale, California) has been cleared for TransOral otolaryngologic surgical procedures to treat benign tumors and select malignant tumors in adults.
With the FDA clearance of the da Vinci System for transoral otolaryngology, Penn Medicine will immediately expand its well established training program to include surgical teams from the United States.
